JUNE 18 - Tiptoe around in hostel kitchen, as there a number of people sleeping in the reception area, then we are off to the bus station to catch another Flixbus. The route goes west, almost to the German border, then swings south directly through a little finger of Poland that separates Germany from the Czech Republic. Oddly, right down in this corner there is a huge power plant here, with a number of cooling towers.
Our tickets are split up on the bus, so I go to the back. By chance I’m sitting next to the three people who were sleeping in the hostel reception room. They are Brazilian, working in Germany and just taking a long weekend to see some of the surrounding countries. They explain that their room was the dormitory, and a number of people there partied the whole night, which made it impossible to sleep. Hearing this does bring some memories back, of times when I usually chose dorm rooms, simply because they were cheap and I was almost guaranteed a bed.
We drive along a small river that forms the border of Germany and Poland, then down into Czech Republic at about noon. All farmlands and a few small towns.
