Dec 9 - The wifi in our hotel is so bad that I cannot get anything done online. Instead, move one of our bags to another hotel, where we will be staying in four days, and I purchase some bus tickets for an onward journey after that.
Head to CAI in late afternoon. The airport has changed in the last 30 years, is a lot more orderly now. We check in for our Luxor flight, originally scheduled for an hour earlier but changed in the last few days. As a result, the hour-long flight is at night so not much to see. In Luxor, get a taxi into town, then south along the Nile, over a bridge, and back up the west bank. Roughly four times the distance than if we had taken it to the port and gone by ferry. Our hotel is new and nearly empty, with a swimming pool (cold!) and blissfully quiet. The western bank of the Nile used to be just a small urban area, now hugely expanded with hotels and restaurants everywhere.
