Dec 15 - Organize a ride today for a Three Holes, a dive site about 10 minutes south of Dahab. The hotel wants to send a list of what we need to a place there to rent (they have a connection with a café), we ask for a few masks and fins.
The road down goes up away from the coast, and I see many new construction sites, all hotels along the beach. As of yet nothing is open. The end of the road is Three Holes, with a line of beach cafes with shaded blankets and pillows. There is no charge for them, but it is understood you will get some drinks or food. Besides the equipment we already arranged, get some wetsuits.
The snorkeling is decent, for being so close to shore. We have no means to take photos underwater, so really not much to show. The visibility is much better the further out we swim. There is some reef death closer to shore, but that also gets better further out. The usual colorful fish are out and about. The best ones we see are: stonefish, rainbow wrasses, lionfish, masked pufferfish, butterflyfish, and clownfish. I go out a second time and see a large starry pufferfish and some Picasso triggerfish.
Eat at a good seafood restaurant in town in the evening. The cats are all over us, despite the use of a spray bottle to keep them at bay.
