Sept 23 - Spend part of the morning repacking. We are going on a ‘vacation’ for a few weeks, which means we are experimenting with taking fewer things along. Over this past six months, I’ve found that there are a number of items I never use. Some are first aid items, hence necessary, but there is other stuff that just weighs me down. Between me and Janet, we cut down the load by two big bags, stashing them in the hotel luggage storage room.
Burdened by only two backpacks and two day packs, we take a pre-arranged taxi back to faraway IST airport, crawling once again through the awful traffic that seems to be a permanent feature in this city now.
Go through security twice, the first time right away upon entering the terminal. As mentioned before, this airport is vast, with a huge daily throughput. It is considered the second most buy airport in Europe, with almost 1,250 flights/day.
Turkish Airlines actually served a meal on the flight, a real bonus in the days of no frills economy seating.
