    Day 42: Lagos

July 5 - Walk down into town and find a kayak tour of the coastline south of town.

Numerous poles have been erected around town to provide stork nesting sites.

The tour is by boat to a site offshore the cliffs, where we transfer to the kayaks and paddle around the cliffs and few a few of the tunnels. I get photos while on the boat, but we do not have waterproof gear to get photos while in the kayaks. There are medium-sized waves today.

The rocks here are units of the Lagos-Portimao Formation, a sequence terrestrial and shallow marine silicastics with minor limestones. They are eroding quickly, forming unstable cliffs and caves.

It is enjoyable paddling by this terrain, though the sea is thick with kayaks and speedboat tours. I expected this, since the west end of the Algarve is one of the most visited parts of Portugal.

Back to town for a walk around. Eat at a popular restaurant (Adega da Marina) suggested to us due to its cheap pratos do dia. I have sardines with potatoes and onions, a clearly Portuguese traditional dish.

Back to the hotel so Odette can enjoy some pool time with the other kids.
