July 14 - Long day on buses. Early Bolt ride to the Evora bus station for a Flixbus to Lisbon. Once there, sort out a connecting bus onward to Porto, a ride that takes about four hours. All in all the whole day is spent getting to our destination. The vegetation changes drastically, from dry, Mediterranean scrubland to green forests and croplands. The bus driver Lisbon-Porto is a big fan of 1980’s ‘big hair’ rock, not shy to sing out his favorite Bon Jovi songs as he listens.
Our room in Porto is on the east side of town, in an apartment with several residents and a shared bathroom. Go down to a string of restaurants by the Marques de Oliveira Park for dinner. It seems noisy here, probably because the last three places we’ve stayed were so quiet all the time.
