July 23 - Very nice included breakfast, prepared by the kind woman who owns the house. Her cat bites our feet below the table. Drive back to the car rental agency, return the car, and get the metro back to downtown Porto. We cannot yet check in, so waste a lot of time finding somewhere to store the bags (at the metro station).
Then try to visit the Parque e Jardim da Fundacao Serraives to the west of town, but they want a bundle just to enter. I was not prepared to be spending money just to relax in a park, so we make our way all the way back on another bus. By now it is late enough that we can gather the bags and find the hotel.
The hotel is definitely well below anything we’ve had so far. Even though there is staff behind the counter, they take almost 10 minutes to open the door after we ring the bell. Then the room is a furnace and the aircon doesn’t work. They say they will call someone to fix it and we leave to find food. Upon returning it is still not working, hang out in the hallway where the temp is tolerable. Finally the owner shows up, and the ‘fix’ turns out to be the action of switching on the power to that outlet from behind the front desk. Why couldn’t someone have just done that hours ago?
