Apr 5 - Still no internet in the morning, so after breakfast we walk downtown and sit for a few hours at Starbucks. I did not want to do this, but work came up and I had no option but try and take care of it before our marathon flights later on. On the way we see all the damage last night’s rain has done, flooding the housing near the streams. After the work is wrapped up we make our way back to the hotel, eat, and get a free ride to the Labuan Bajo airport. It is very small but modern and full of tourists. Our flight goes only to Bali today.
Despite the loud call to prayer we’ve heard here since arriving, the dominant religion in Flores is Roman Catholic. This is due to the history of association with the Portuguese. Though I do see a few women here covered like in Sumbawa and Lombok, most are dressed much more liberally.
Arrive in the Denpasar airport after dark, get a $10 Grab ride that is literally five minutes to the hotel. Basically there is nothing to do here but go to sleep, as we need to be back at the airport early morning. This sort of connection is nothing I would ever have designed myself. It is all due to scheduling issues with AirAsia.
