Apr 6 - Up at 3:45, decide to just walk to the airport terminal. It takes about 10 minutes. The AirAsia check-in line is already a bit long. It takes over an hour to get to the counter, as the computers are down and all the boarding passes are being written out by hand.
As expected, Bali airport is all about milking a few last dollars from the tourist before they escape. Of course, the departure lounge isn’t just a straight walk, you have to wind through the duty-free shops, with no clear signage to help you along.
Flight takes off on time, good views over Bali and east Java before we bank north.
COST SUMMARY:
This is our final day in Indonesia. While I still consider it to be a cheap place to stay and eat, we spent a lot of money on day tours. There just wasn’t any other way to do much of that on our own.
Projected daily cost from the pre-planning phase = $100/day
Realized daily average costs for Mar 8 to Apr 6 = $111/day
The share of this cost apportioned to lodging was 28%, food 18%, and transport 22%. Entry fees for touristic sites came in at an alarming 31%, and were not the result of cheap accommodation, but rather simply the expense of getting to the attractions.
