May 2 - After our breakfast at the decent restaurant across from the park entrance, we hang around at the parking lot to flag down a bus. Wait about 20 minutes and one comes by charging MYR 45 each to make the dropoff at the Sepilok turnoff. The trip is about four hours, with a lot of traffic slowdowns along the way.
Dumped off at the junction for Sepilok. Fortunately there is Grab available here, so get one for the five minute drive to our B&B. Sepilok is not a town, rather a long road with lodging along the way, and a few restaurants. It sits at the edge of the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve.
After checking in, we head to the forest reserve, about a five-minute walk away. Entry is MYR 50. There isn’t a lot of time until closing, so we do the canopy walk. It is a substantial one, with wide metal walkways and high observation towers.
This is another dipterocarp forest, like at Mulu Gurung NP. The ‘upperstory’ trees here are very tall, the tallest we’ve seen in Borneo. There are a few birds around, though not as many as I had hoped.
At the small lake near the park entrance, spend time on the narrow suspension bridge going over it, and watch the swifts scooping insects off the surface of the water.
