    Day 377: Bintulu

Apr 15 - Bintulu is a functioning, industrial city. I originally planned to do some excursions from here, but ended up finding better options down the road. The area we are in is a series of circular roads encompassing varied businesses. Walking around, more than anywhere up to now, is a trial, as the roads are simply not designed for pedestrian traffic. Its like Saudi Arabia ‘lite’.

Even though the zoo is about ten minutes away walking, the highways don’t really permit easy access. We take a Grab over, as they are cheap here.

The zoo entrance. Entry is free, perhaps because the place is a bit run down.

There were some species I doubt we will see in the wild, so at least good to get a look at them here.

Rhinoceros hornbill, one of three we saw at the zoo. At least their cages were large.

There was a butterfly house of sorts. The insects were all pinned into displays.

An orchid color they had in the zoo garden, that I did not see in the Kutching Orchid Garden.

It is very hot at the zoo, and we are exhausted after several hours walking around the place. Back to the hotel and I work.
