Apr 17 - Get to the bus station early to find a ride to Miri. On board our bus is the Canadian couple we first saw on our bus from Kuching to Sibu. Make a long stop at Batu Niah, way station for the Niah NP.
Miri is similar in look to both Sibu and Bintulu. Our hotel is in a very quiet area near the coast. I am informed that there is no bus from here to Brunei, all transport has to be arranged by private car. This is unwelcome news, as that will likely be expensive.
Wander the streets of Miri, looking for leech socks. These are tightly woven socks to wear over normal socks, and that go up to the shins. They are a line of defense against leeches brushing off from plants on the side of the trail. Don’t know if we will need them.
To the rather opulent city park.
Walking around Miri is a challenge, as we’ve grown accustomed to. Pedestrian crossings are an afterthought in most areas.
