Apr 21 - Into the park early for an 8:30 canopy walk guided tour. For once we eat breakfast at the park café, as expected the prices for breakfast fare are extortionate compared with other meals.
The tour takes us down the usual path, almost all the way to the bat observatory. On the way we briefly see a hornbill, flying far above the treetops, issuing a croaking call. The walk itself is short, no more than 20 minutes. The suspended bridges are narrow and slippery but provide a great view of the jungle below. The only animal we see up here is a green lizard with a long tail.
On the way back, we deviate to the north along the Paku Waterfall trail and revisit this area. The water is a lot higher now, though the falls have about the same volume as before. From here we continue the loop that goes along the edge of the limestone cliffs, all the way to the Melinau River.
Once back at the park entrance, eat again at the café and go to the homestay for a few hours rest. Today is sunny, so everything is hot. Because we were unable to do the night walk yesterday, I reschedule for tonight and we are back in the park by 19:00 again. This time there is no storm, so we head out with our guide from Clearwater Cave yesterday (Ismael), a British couple, and a Chinese family with two small children. There are many animals to see. Two that we were not able to get photos of were a vine snake and a jungle rat.
