Feb 11 - Our original plan was to go to the water park today, but Odette is stuffed up and with fever, so for the morning we stay in and I get some writing done. At noon, we head to a place for lunch that I had my eye on yesterday called Seafood BBQ. Go to a sports store in search of shoes to replace mine, as they are finally wearing out after ten months of continuous use. But nothing in the store looks up to the task. Walk up a side street to what will be the night market tonight, where the stalls are setting up but not much out yet to look at. Then down the main avenue to a large park past the mosque. It has a sort of abandoned look, like so many things in this town. The most exciting thing all day happens when Odette sits on a concrete slab, puts her hand in some grass, and a few minutes later discovers that some large red ants have crawled inside her dress. We pick them out but not before one of them bites her. I figured we would not be in SE Asia long before this sort of thing started to happen, I can only hope Odette will toughen up to it before we move to more ‘advanced’ jungle excursions.
