May 30 - Everything with transport is still up in the air. The weather continues to worsen. Late morning I go by the travel agency, and they propose that we take a ferry on May 31 to Puerto Princessa. This is not where I wanted to go first, but is our final destination in Palawan. Unfortunately this means if we want to see El Nido, we must take a six-hour ride from PP. This PP ferry is the only one going, because it is larger than the others and can handle bad weather.
Obviously this is going to turn into a grueling finale for Philippines. I get my money back for the flight and book places on the PP ferry, supposedly leaving Coron Town at 06:00. The real frustration with all of this is that meanwhile, it isn’t possible for us to do anything out of town.
Walk around, eat, work, get rained on. Janet gets some ice cream for us just as a downpour hits, meaning she has to walk through it back to hotel otherwise it will melt. Late evening, another text arrives to inform me that the PP ferry will leave at 12:30 tomorrow. Good news is we don’t have to get up at 4:30, bad news is that the arrival time in PP will be late night.
I am impressed by this news, not that it is good, but that they thought to inform us in the first place. I spent part of today thinking that this agency (Sun Star Travel and Tours) was just jerking us around with an upsell on the plane ticket. But when they refunded that and finally got me a proper ferry ticket, I felt like they were really trying to get us on a boat. Like everyone, they have to deal with constant uncertainty.
