    Day 151: Tiranë

Sept 1 - Go south to the Grand Park, a huge open space with a lake. The way there is all road construction, it seems most places in Tiranë are being upgraded. I wonder where all the money is coming from, seeing that Albania is not in such great shape economically.

The park had several areas for kid activities.

I’ve been told this by several people, that the degree of cooperation between religious groups in Albania is unusually good. I have also heard people talking about the ‘Besa’ code means something like ‘word of honor’ or, more expansively, ‘to protect someone in need regardless of faith, race, or nationality’. It is a powerful idea that Albanians are very proud of displaying.

Walk along a promenade that spans the dam wall for the lake. At the other end is the Tirana Zoopark.

Odette enjoyed it, but this zoo is really small and some of the animals do not appear very healthy. It is also hot, as the trees are newly planted and provide very little cover.

The tiger was one of the animals hanging out in the only tolerable part of their cages.
