Aug 11 - For today, we booked a few weeks ahead for a snorkeling trip to two islands to the west of Dubrovnik. It starts at 9:30, so we take the opportunity to go into old town earlier (at 8:00) and see things before the crowds move in.
We chose this tour because they were fine with kids, and the boat maxed out at 12 passengers.
The first destination was a set of semi-submerged caves (called Three Green Caves) on the island of Koločep. I don’t have any photos of what we saw in the water. I went with a group that entered a narrow cave, where there were a few spots to swim between caverns, and then climb out the other end, jump in the ocean off some rocks, and swim back to the boat. There were a few fish, including some colorful members of the wrasse family. There weren’t any hard corals, but some soft coral and seagrasses, red anemones, and urchins. By far the most exciting was an octopus, which I spotted and got Odette over there to see.
The second destination was Šunj Beach, on the island of Lopud.
The last destination was the Blue Hole, back on Koločep. Not to be confused with many other places called ‘Blue Hole’, both in Croatia and in Montenegro.
Back to Dubrovnik, Janet and Odette head to the room in Lapad, and I go to the ethnographic museum. It is housed in the old granary building. There are mostly farm implements and ethnic costumes.
