    Day 59: Vilnius

JUNE 1 - At least this morning looked OK for weather, so we head south of the river for another church.

The Church and Monastery of St. Philip and St. Jacob the Apostles, interior.

The Church and Monastery of St. Philip and St. Jacob the Apostles, as seen from a nearby park. It was first built in 1642 and rebuilt a number of times thereafter due to fires. The Dominicans lost the church in 1844 due to Russia’s ban on that order, and they only regained possession of the property in 1992.

There is a famous painting inside called ‘St. Philip and St. Jacob the Apostles’ which was also regained at that time, probably from being hidden during Soviet times.

We then go to the Museum of Illusions in the Old City. It is a fun time, and we spend several hours playing around with the displays.
