    Walk around in forest by the hot springs before breakfast.

    On the road again, long bumpy ride down the valley and out into the open steppes again. In mid-afternoon turn off main road and north to Mongol Els, a long but relatively thin region of sand dunes.

    I am not a real fan of camel rides, but it was important to do it once on a Bactrian. Like all camels, they don’t like riders. I’m sure the rope tied through a ring in their nostrils has something to do with that.

    This evening we had a few brief rainstorms. O was elated when the rain brought a myriad of tiny gray toads into our ger.
